PONDERAY — Carpet One administrators have hired new individuals and promoted others to meet positive business projections for this year head-on.

According to business manager John Darling, the business is looking forward to an improved year for business after several years of tougher times. Despite the downtown, Darling said the business made an effort to keep from down-sizing their staff. With a 4-percent increase in growth projected for this year, the business is ready to go with a full crew on deck.

“Everyone has been wonderful,” Darling said. “This is probably the best staff we’ve ever accumulated.”

The first to earn a promotion is Heather Loman, who was elevated in December to the position of sales manager. Her new role means she’ll be working closely with the business sales associates to make sure they stay on task in pursuing sales goals.

“We chose her for that job based on the strength of her relationship with her peers,” Darling said.

Ben Medeiros is a recent hire in the sales department, but according to Darling, there are bigger plans for him in mind. He’s being cross-trained into coordinating with insurance companies and handling repairs in the event of a fire or some other kind of damage.

“He has an extensive background in construction, and his attention to detail is very thorough,” Darling said.

That will help clear a little work off of Justin Derwick’s plate, the current coordinator with insurance companies. Derwick was hired last year and is in charge of key accounts, or clients like builders that usually buy supplies in large quantities.

“He has shown wonderful growth in coordinating relationships with the local building community,” Darling said.

Finally, Katie Rogers was just hired in December as a new design specialist, recommending different conceptual approaches to maximize the attractiveness and utility of a room. She is a native of the area and happy to be living in her hometown after earning a degree in interior design with a minor in architecture.

“She’s definitely taken this new role and just grabbed it by the horns,” Darling said.
