Rally for the Cure golf tourney on tap at Elks

| July 5, 2013 7:00 AM

SANDPOINT — Attention women golfers: Don’t miss a chance to have fun driving, chipping and putting while supporting a worthwhile cause.

The Sandpoint Women’s Golf Association will host the annual Rally for the Cure Golf Tournament on Wednesday, July 10, with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.

Rally for the Cure is a partnership with the Susan G. Komen for the Cure, organized to spread the lifesaving message of early detection of breast cancer. The event is open to all women golfers whether they are members or not, and all of the entry fees of $20 will go to cancer research.

Each participant will receive a year’s subscription to a Conte Nast publication, a goody bag and an opportunity to win other prizes. Contests include getting a commemorative ball if you hit the green with your drive on No. 1 or if you have the longest putt on No. 9. The drive closest to the center line on No. 3 will win a hybrid club.

A special guest this year will be Patti Martuis, teaching pro at the Links Golf Course in Hayden. She and other players from that course will join the nine-hole scramble fun, followed by lunch at 11:15 a.m. on the Elks Club deck. The lunch will cost $9 and players can pay before playing, and there will be reduced greens fee that day.

Another player from the past will be honored. Naomi Hagadone played with the club 30 years ago and you can still read about her in our scrap book from that era. At that time our club had distinct flights and she played in the first flight in many tournaments.

Checks for the $20 entrance fee should be made out to Rally for the Cure. Those staying for the lunch need to make out a separate check for $9. For this check you can use the acronym SEWGA. You can pay anytime before the event but we need to have your complete information on the sign-up chart. All participants are asked to wear pink that day and select your own team foursome.

This event was selected to help with the research for this disease that has directly or indirectly affected every family in Sandpoint.
