Will we learn impact of GMOs too late?

| November 12, 2013 6:00 AM

Recently I learned of a study linking DDT exposure in rats to obesity in their grandchildren:

“Scientists injected pregnant rats with DDT and found no change in their levels of obesity or their offspring. But by the third generation, more than half of the rats showed dramatically higher levels of fat and weight gain, even though they were never exposed to the pesticide themselves.”(http://seattletimes.com/html/health/2022117870_ddtobesityxml.html?syndication=rss)

Could this explain the explosion of obesity in my generation’s grandchildren? DDT use was banned more than 40 years ago and its connection to obesity wasn’t discovered until recently.

This begs the question: what will we learn about GMOs and the adverse effect it is having on our health years from now when it has become too late?

Let’s assume for the sake of argument that GMOs are perfectly safe for human consumption. Monsanto has made several food crops resistant to the herbicide Roundup®. That means these crops are being saturated with Roundup® several times a growing season to control weeds. Because of this these crops are absorbing this herbicide and we are consuming it. What effect will this consumption of Roundup® have on our grandchildren’s grandchildren 40 years from now?

The pro-GMO faction likes to scare voters into voting against their own best interest by claiming labeling GMO foods will make food cost more. I’m sure most have seen the additional label that is placed on loaves of bread stating, “may have come into contact with nuts” or other foods that have the warning on its container that it was processed in a plant that also processes nuts … I have not seen a price increase in these products because of this labeling.

What the GMO food industry and Monsanto really fear is that if people know that a food has a GMO in it, they may not buy it. Eventually it will come out that certain GMO foods are harming those who eat it. It’s just a matter of time. Don’t be surprised if that information is listed as classified by the GMO industry lapdogs in our government.

Monsanto and the GMO food industry prefer that we remain ignorant. And anyone voting against labeling GMO foods is saying, “I want to stay ignorant.”

If I didn’t know any better I would think these GMOs that are being shoved down our throats is an alien plot to rid the planet of the human race.
