Contor, Matlosz earn wins against Vikings

SANDPOINT — Madi Contor won the 100 butterfly and Kate Matlosz won the 200 individual medley, leading the Sandpoint swim team during its home opener against Coeur d’Alene and Lakeland on Wednesday at the Sandpoint West Athletic Club.

The Sandpoint boys and girls teams beat Lakeland and fell to Coeur d’Alene in the tri-team dual format.

Cassidy Story, Shanna Crayne, Matlosz and Contor teamed up to finish second in both the 200 free and 400 free relays, and Ben Reich, Kai Whitley, Clayton York and Jacob Sweezy teamed up to finish second in the boys 200 free relay.

Sandpoint head coach Mike Brosnahan praised the swimming of York, who finished second in the 50 free, and Whitley, a first year swimmer who finished third in the 50 free despite starting two seconds late.

Nikole Alamillo, Monica Olaso, Emily Hieronymus and Madi Ogle teamed up to finish second in the 200 medley relay. Other top finishers for Sandpoint included Contor (2nd in 200 free), Matlosz (3rd in 100 free), Crayne (2nd in 100 free and 100 back) and Hieronymus (2nd in the 400 free).
