Sandpoint rallies for comeback win

| July 19, 2014 7:00 AM

T.J. Davis laid down a perfect bunt, and Jacob Cometto, slid home for the winning run, as the Sandpoint Stampede scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to notch a 3-2 win over West Valley of Eagle in the Juniors All-Star State championship opener on Friday at War Memorial Field.

Trailing 2-0 in the sixth, Chris Sabin and Garrett Connolly started the rally with back-to-back singles.

Trey Flint then hit an RBI single to close the gap to 2-1, followed by Davis’s bunt, with Connolly scoring the tying run on an overthrow to first. Cometto, a pinch runner for Flint, scored the winning run on a wild pitch. Tyrone Larson then slammed the door with a one-two-three inning, capping a strong complete game performance to pick up the win.

The two teams will battle again today at 10 a.m. in the best of three format.
