| April 24, 2015 7:00 AM

SANDPOINT — Timberlake rallied in the sixth inning from a 4-0 deficit to win 5-4 over Sandpoint in the nightcap of a nonleague softball doubleheader sweep on Thursday at Sandpoint Middle School.

The Tigers (9-8) scored five runs in the top of the sixth, finally breaking through against Sandpoint starter Bri Baldree to earn pitcher Shelby Salois the win. In the opener, the Tigers scored six runs in the fourth inning of a 7-4 win. The opener was shortened to five innings for time constraints.

“It was a great comeback win for us,” said Tigers head coach Mike Menti. “The girls’ ability to be down 4-0 and come back and get a win means we’re heading in the right direction.”

Morgan Bluemer had two hits to lead the Bulldogs (5-9), who scored four runs in the second, backing a strong outing from Baldree, who put up zeroes until the pivotal sixth inning.

Bulldog head coach Elizabeth Hawkins praised her defense, which other than two big innings, was solid all day.

“Our defense came mentally prepared today and played really well,” praised Hawkins. “Kenzie Crabb played outstanding defense in the outfield.”

Sandpoint hosts St. Maries on Saturday in a doubleheader at SMS. First pitch is at 10 a.m.
