Floyd LeRoy 'Abe' Eveland Sr., 86

Floyd LeRoy “Abe” Eveland Sr., 86, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 4, 2016, in Hayden, Idaho.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 7, in Coffelt’s Funeral Chapel in Sandpoint, Idaho. Pastor Jon Pomeroy, Sandpoint Church of God, will be officiating.

Floyd was born on October 2, 1929 in Gordon, Nebraska the son of James and Mary Eveland In 1937 the family moved to the Sandpoint area from Gordon, Nebraska. He attended area schools before going to work on local ranches. He also worked as a logger in the area and in area sawmills. He moved to Emmett, Idaho, in 1957 where he worked for Boise Payette, in the sawmill, also working in the local fruit packing industry.

Floyd had also lived in Portland, Ore., returning to Sandpoint in 1968 and had a ranch on the Colburn Culver Road. In his retirement he would also live in Walters, Okla., with his son Rocky.

He enjoyed being a “cowboy at heart”

Floyd is survived by eight children, Floyd L. “Rocky” (and Nita) Eveland in Walters, Okla., Nancy M. (Duke) Metcalf in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, LaRita Stapelton in Hot Springs, Mont., Carlotta (and James) Martin in Naples, Idaho, Clayton (and Penny) Eveland in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, Rinnie Eveland in Milton Freewater, Ore., Clinton Eveland in Sandpoint, and Laura (John) Eveland in Sandpoint. Also surviving are 23 grandchildren, 58 great-grandchildren and 22 great-great-grandchildren other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, many siblings, son-in-law Vance Stapleton and grandson David Kamp.
