Please vote yes on the August 30 school levy election. The state of Idaho does not put tax dollars toward school buildings and many of the schools in the Lake Pend Oreille School District are unsafe and inadequate. None of us like paying taxes, but for many years, during the economic downturn, we have been paying about half the statewide average to support our schools.

Several of our schools were built in the 1950s, and even with upgrades since then, they have become costly to keep patching together, and have become unsafe and below codes established since they were built.

A committee of community members assessed the school buildings and came up with a plan that addresses the worst buildings in an organized plan that makes sense and causes the least disruption for the students.

Let’s protect our children and attract businesses to our community with strong, safe schools.
