I have noticed signs along Highway 95 saying things like “Support Our Schools” (SOS, really?) vote for school levy, but very little information other than catchy phrases. So I thought I would try to dig up more info since I like to make educated decisions, especially when it comes to voting and how my tax dollars are spent. I have three elementary age kids myself so I need to make every penny count.

As I dug up info I found out that this is a $55,000,000 levy that will double my, and everyone in the Lake Pend Oreille School District, school taxes whether they have kids in school or not. So I asked myself what will my tax dollars buy and why are we the taxpayers being asked to pony up more in taxes even with a projected decline in school enrollment.

These are some of the things the purposed tax increase will buy. Includes new buildings (Northside and Washington elementaries, and Sandpoint Middle School); prove that we need these new buildings. Also facility upgrades to all buildings and upgrade to Clark Fork Jr-Sr High School’s CTE shop.

I’m not going to keep piling more facts that show that this is not even close to being a well thought out plan. Do your own research (lposdlevy.com)

A lot of us moved away from states that try to pull this kind of stuff on the uninformed and uninterested citizenry. Here in Idaho, I sense folks don’t appreciate people trying to pull the wool over their eyes and take hard-earned money away from their families. Our country is a mess (almost $19 trillion in debt), the states on the East and West coasts are a mess and I, for one, hope to do all I can to keep that out of our state for as long as I have breath.

Vote against the $55 million LPOSD levy or a lot of us will have a SOS in our wallets.
