I would like to warn the senior citizens of our community. My mother-in-law received a postcard addressed directly to her, which I found to be close to using scamming tactics. It shows a cartoon jail prisoner labeled LPOSD, and demands in big letters to vote against the Aug. 30 plant facilities levy. Its checklist of “facts” is fabricated, and it is obvious that whoever sent this out was not educated in Lake Pend Oreille School District; the math calculations are incorrect.

No one takes credit for sending out this postcard. Only a website is listed. This despicable postcard is propaganda against our children and grandchildren, who spend hours each week day learning in classrooms and schools that physically are rated “unsatisfactory.” A group of diverse community members have worked diligently for the past year identifying and prioritizing major facility projects. The levy will span the next five to six years — yes, the $55.1 million is spread over the next six years, not one lump sum.

Nowhere on the postcard is it mentioned why the school board unanimously voted to run this levy: the safety and health of our children and grandchildren is at stake.

Please, if you have any questions and/or concerns about the plant facilities levy, I urge you to call Shawn Woodward, 208-263-2184, ext. 1015. His email is shawn.woodward@lposd.org.
