Aug. 11, 1966 — FIRE DANGER GROWS

The dry weather so far shows no end in sight. Supervisor Harold Anderson, fire dispatcher Ken Nelson and Dan Massing who serves in a public relations capacity all say that the public cannot be too aware of the dryness now prevalent in the Kaniksu.

Fires currently burn on the north fork of Granite creek, northwest of Priest Lake and another in the neighboring Colville National Forest.

FORMAL TRANSFER SCHEDULED

City of Sandpoint will formally take possession of the old Sandpoint post office on Aug. 29 from the GSA. Sandpoint wishes to use the building for a new home for the public library. A contract has also been agreed upon to allow Bonner General Hospital to use some of the second floor as a place to train licensed practical nurses.

ELKS RECEIVE GIFT

The Sandpoint Elks Club received a handsome gift from Bing Crosby in appreciation of the hospitality accorded him on a recent fishing trip here. The gift was a combination radio and phonograph bearing an autographed plate on the front which said “to my friends, the Sandpoint Elks, Bing Crosby.”

Aug. 11, 1916 — CHAUTAUQUA NEXT YEAR

The guarantee for a chautauqua next year just reached over the 400 mark, the number required to secure a six day chautauqua and be placed on that circuit. Many prefer a seven day program but that circuit calls for an additional 200 signatures on the guarantee, which were not forthcoming.

Notes from Nogales, Ariz., July 26, 1916:

“Dear Friends, I thank you all in behalf of the snuff chewers of company A. There was sure a glad bunch when the snuff came in. Thank all of the senders for us.” Signed, Ted Dellinger

PAVING PROCEEDING RAPIDLY

The concreting on Pine street will be done by the end of the week, when the street will be ready for the top treatment. It will be but a few days before district No. 6 around the high school will be ready for the concrete foundation.
