Instead of replacing the LPOSD schools, as proposed in the massive levy, I suggest replacing the superintendent and the entire school board for incompetence.

As any homeowner knows, you maintain and repair your property as problems arise; you don’t simply move out and buy a new one. LPOSD has a maintenance and operations budget, and the superintendent and board are responsible for making sure that facility needs are not neglected. But as the school board chair recently admitted in trying to justify the massive levy, they’ve “been kicking the can down the road” on building maintenance for many years.

They have not been kicking the can down the road when it comes to salaries, perks, and bonuses while their facilities fell into disrepair. Or are they actually in such a state of disrepair that they have to be rebuilt, remodeled, and added on to? And if so, what are we paying our administrators those high salaries for?

The school board is complicit because it doesn’t ask those questions. In fact, two of its members participated in setting up the vote for this levy. Meetings are run as an oligarchy with little or no public input allowed. For matters deemed sensitive by the board, they move to executive session, as with the administrators’ bonuses. The levy preparation was kept secret for six months before the board made it an agenda item.

The public’s recourse for that kind of behavior is at the ballot box. On Aug. 30, vote against this levy.
