Fitness class for seniors announced

| August 13, 2016 1:00 AM

A free Fit and Fall Proof program, sponsored by Panhandle Health District, will be held at Memorial Community Center in Hope.

The 10-week program will be on Tuesdays and Fridays, 10-11 a.m., from Aug. 16 to Oct. 21.

Fit and Fall Proof is a fitness program designed for older adults. The classes are meant to improve flexibility, mobility, balance and strength.

The program is for all ability levels, from active seniors to those with existing mobility and balance problems.

Fit and Fall Proof instructors are older adult volunteers who are certified to teach by the health district. The classes in Hope are taught by Karen Mosiman with assistance from certified instructors Susan Howard and Margarete Raiha.

Classes are ongoing and participants can start at any time.

“It’s never too late to strengthen your muscles and improve your balance”, Mosiman said. “Everyone in class works at his or her own level, so participants don’t feel stressed or intimidated. We just try to have fun, keep moving and feel good about what we’re doing.”
