| August 20, 2016 1:00 AM

PRIEST LAKE — Fellow boaters rescued eight people after their vessel capsized off Eightmile Island in Thursday night’s storm.

It was not immediately clear how long the capsized boaters were in the water before they were rescued, according to a Priest Lake Ambulance official.

The incident was reported at 7:42 p.m. the Bonner County 911 dispatch log indicates.

A passing boater encountered the overturned vessel and took one of the boaters to shore, but was unable to return to rescue the others because of rough conditions.

A Priest Lake Ambulance volunteer who happened to be boating in the area heard the distress calls over the radio and rescued the seven remaining boaters.

The boaters who were rescued had symptoms of hypothermia, but none were transported by ambulance for treatment, according to the Priest Lake Ambulance official.
