Soon after moving to Clark Fork, Alan began beekeeping with his son-in-law, Kris. This became Clark Fork River Honey Company.

He is survived by two daughters, Sherry (Kris) Wold of Clark Fork, and Lana (Gary) Brennan of Bowman, N.C; seven grandchildren, Brandon, Michael, Kalynn, Dillon, Heather, Josie and Matthew; and six great-grandchildren, Roger, James, Aria, Theo, Kaison and Charlie.
