Ruth Irene Beyer, 70

| August 23, 2016 1:00 AM

Ruth Irene Beyer, 70, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2016, at her home in Sagle, Idaho.

Ruth was born in Sandpoint, Idaho, on March 5, 1946, to Harry and Dortha Walker. She grew up in south Sandpoint in a large family and was the youngest of 14 children — 10 girls and four boys. She attended elementary school in Sandpoint and graduated from Sandpoint High School in 1964.

She met Richard Beyer in high school during their freshman year and have been together ever since. They were married on Feb. 21, 1964, in Sandpoint. Ruth and Richard moved around the Pacific Northwest in their early years of marriage with Richard’s job with the Burlington Northern Railroad. They moved back to Sandpoint for good in 1973 where they raised their two kids, Jeff and Sally.

Ruth worked in the banking industry for 15 years in Sand-point. She enjoyed camping, fishing, snowmobiling and traveling. She loved being out on the lake, baking, reading, gardening, and most of all spending time with her family. Ruth enjoyed sports, she bowled and played softball in her younger years and golfed and fly fished in retirement. She always enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren play sports. She loved watching baseball and football on TV or live at games in Seattle and Arizona.

Ruth was known as a responsible and hard working person and always found time for fun, too. She had a great sense of humor which came in handy coming from such a large family. She passed this sense of humor on to her two children, who have many great memories of laughing and having fun with their mom. She always thought of others first even right up to the end, worrying more about her family than herself. She had a big generous heart and will be missed beyond words by those she left behind.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and three sisters. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Richard Beyer; her son, Jeff Beyer (Janet) and his kids Katie and Karl Beyer; her daughter, Sally Beyer (Jay Vandenberg) and her children Wilson and Arie Vandenberg. She is also survived by her sisters, Peggy Thurlow, Joyce Hartley, Pat Russell and Betty Gonnason of Sandpoint, Nancy Pieffer of Kalispell, Mont., and Phyllis Loftus of Vancouver, Wash.; and many nieces and nephews.

Services to celebrate and honor Ruth’s life will be held at the Lakeview Funeral Home in Sandpoint on Friday, Aug. 26, 2016, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Andy Kennaly from the First Presbyterian Church officiating. Afterward there will be a lunch at the Elks golf course.
