Big second half leads T-Wolves past Bulldogs

COEUR d’ALENE — Senior Havana Johnson scored two goals for the Lake City Timbewolves in a 4-0 win against the Sandpoint Bulldogs in nonleague girls soccer Tuesday at the Irma Anderl Soccer Complex.

“We came out a little slow and definitely had a lot of chances early,” said Lake City coach Matt Ruchti, who played its season opener after finishing runner-up in last year’s state 5A tournament. “We got organized in the second half and had the right attitude from kickoff, and it showed. We were able to connect a few different passes and make some plays.”

Despite the final score, Bulldogs (0-1-1) head coach Conor Baranski felt his team played respectably in the first half, before the Timberwolves (1-0) blew things open early in the second.

“I don’t think we got dominated that fully, we played really well in the first half,” described Baranski. “They scored two goals in the first two minutes of the second half. They took it to us, and we didn’t have an answer for that.”

Freshman goalie Shea Kilpatrick was peppered with 17 shots on goal, stopping 13 as the Bulldogs’ back four was tested.

Sandpoint hosts Lewiston on Saturday night at 6 p.m. under the lights of War Memorial Field.
