Entertainment scene shows no signs of slowing

SANDPOINT — August might be winding down, but the entertainment scene shows no sign of slowing as we close out the month.

Saturday promises big fun, as the Music Conservatory of Sandpoint packs the entire day with activities as part of its Grand Expansion Celebration, complete with a tribute to local jazz great Bill Reid, whose piano now resides at the conservatory.

We’ve also got a cool flashback foreign film tonight at the Panida, plus concerts, live music all over the place and auditions for upcoming theatre productions.

Thursday, Aug. 25

Audition Call for Local Musical Production

Venue: Panida Theater, 300 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 5-9 p.m., Thursday

Auditions are scheduled for an upcoming musical theatre production. Audition times start at 5 p.m., with slots every 15 minutes until 9 p.m. A variety of roles are available - acting, vocals and some dancing depending upon role requirements. The musical will be performed on the main stage of the Panida Theater on Dec. 16, 17, 22 & 23.

‘Cinema Paradiso’

Venue: Panida Theater, 300 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 7:30 p.m., Thursday

Come relive this classic award-winning film about the love of cinema!

Admission: $5 movie only or $10 for movie and an Italian Dessert.

Latin inspired, flamenco guitar, covers and originals.

Friday, Aug. 26

Mobius Riff plays an eclectic mix of jazz, rock, Celtic, classical, Middle Eastern and originals, featuring Tom Duebendorfer, Larry Higgins, John Sarchio and Larry Guldberg.

‘Next to Normal’ rock musical

Saturday, Aug. 27

Grand Expansion Celebration

Venue: Music Conservatory of Sandpoint, 110 Main St., in Sandpoint.

Time: 10 a.m.-1 p.m.-explore children’s programs with an instrument zoo, face-painting and musical craft; 1 p.m.-MCS Children’s Theatre performance of ‘The Importance of Being Earnest’; 2 p.m.-Ali Thomas ad Cody Mills open drum circle jam; 4 p.m.-Tribute to Bill Reid, local jazz piano legend. MCS will cut the ribbon on Bill’s Grand Piano, donated in his memory to the Music Conservatory of Sandpoint, and made possible with help from the William Wishnik Foundation and the Equinox Foundation. Come listen to Peter Lucht, Maria Larson, and Larry Hannah, play in loving memory of Bill on his exquisite piano; 5-7 p.m. Art reception, music and appetizers.

Selkirk Society Band

Venue: Park Place Summer Sounds, Park Place stage, corner of First & Cedar, downtown Sandpoint.

John Nilsen

Venue: United Methodist Church, 711 Main St., Sandpoint.

Time: 7 p.m., Saturday

Award-winning pianist John Nilsen played 250 performances in 2015 throughout U.S. and Europe.

Farm to Table Dinner Series

Venue: Shingle Mill Blueberry Farm, just off Hwy. 200 on Shingle Mill Road, Kootenai.

Time: 5: p.m., Saturday

Di Luna’s opens its 2016 Farm to Table Dinner Series with a real treat, dinner on the farm at Shingle Mill Blueberry Farm. The evening begins with a tour and talk by the Omodts about their great adventure into the blueberry business. Those attending the dinner will have a chance to pick some delicious blueberries. After picking, attendees will sit down to an all locally produced meal.

Admission: $40, includes non- alcoholic beverages. Wine will be available to purchase on site. Please bring cash or check for purchasing blueberries and wine, as credit card processing will not be available.

Truck Mills

Truck is the real deal, a multi-instrumentalist and vocalist who has deep-dived into the various cultures his music explores.

Bikes, Blues & Brews Motorcycle Rally

Venue: MickDuff’s Beer Hall, 220 Cedar St., Sandpoint

Time: 9:30 a.m.-6 p.m., Saturday

This new events kicks off with a rally ride along the Bull River Loop, beginning at MickDuff’s Beer Hall at 9:30 a.m. Once you complete the ride, a bike show and live music by the Miah Kohal Band from 3-6 p.m., plus food from Mandala Pizza.

‘Twelfth Night’ auditions

There are openings for 17 men and women who can play people in their 20s to 40s. Production dates are Oct. 20-23, 27-29. Community members are encouraged to audition.
