The upcoming school facilities levy vote is a real dilemma for me as well as many of my friends and associates. It is a lot of money and it will have a significant impact on our property tax bills, so it definitely gets our attention.

Unlike many of letter writers, I certainly don’t believe that our school board members and staff along with the consultants they employ are out to deceive us. For the most part, they are also homeowners and members of our community who are impacted by taxes just like you and me.

We know that our state does not fund the development and renovation of school facilities. We also know our district has a lot of aging buildings and deferred maintenance issues. The question is how do we fix it?

Our school officials and most of our community leaders are advocating their support for the school facilities levy plan as a long-term way to update our facilities. I support this levy because I believe them and I want to support our students and the students who will follow them in our school district. A good school system is an important foundation for our community.
