Hot-shooting Tigers take care of business against Bulldogs

| December 10, 2016 12:00 AM

SANDPOINT — They moved the ball well offensively, and when a shooter came open on the perimeter, Timberlake made the defense pay, draining 11 three-pointers in a 62-28 dispatching of Sandpoint in nonleague girls basketball Friday night at Les Rogers Court.

Keelie Lawlwer scored 20 points, dropping four 3-pointers, to go with six assists and five boards to lead reigning 3A state champion Timberlake (7-1), Jacquelyn Mallet added 15 points and Allison Kirby and McKeely Tonkin each hit three 3-pointers in a strong shooting display.

“I was happy with our half court offense, we shot the ball well, with confidence and no hesitation,” said Tigers head coach Matt Miller, whose team owns wins over Coeur d’Alene, Lewiston and Gonzaga Prep already this season. “We executed well on both ends.”

Junior Grace Kirscher led the Bulldogs (1-5) with 18 points, six rebounds and three assists, and Trinity Golder hit two 3-pointers among her 12 points, but defensive stops were tough to come by against one of the top offenses in North Idaho, regardless of classification.

“Our schedule’s been brutal. At times, we’ve shown stretches where we played pretty good basketball,” said Bulldogs head coach Duane Ward. “We’re having trouble stringing four quarters together.”

Sandpoint hosts Priest River today, with tip off at 4:30 p.m. preceding the varsity boys game at 6 p.m.
