COEUR d’ALENE — Eli Putren scored nine of his 14 points in the first quarter for the Panthers, who jumped out to a 17-4 lead over the visiting Wampus Cats and rolled to a 58-41 win in nonleague boys basketball Tuesday night at Holy Family Catholic School.

Jacob Rutherford added 13 points and Matthew Phillips 11 for Coeur d’Alene Charter (1-2), which avenged an earlier season three point loss to the Cats.

“From the tipoff we controlled the game,” first-year Charter coach Steven Zamora said. “We got shooters open, and they were knocking down shots. And defensively, we were stellar.”

Freshman Kobe Banks led Clark Fork with a season-high 21 points, and Wade Stevens added 11 in defeat. Other than the first quarter, the game was mostly even once the Cats settled in.

The Wampus Cats (3-2) travel to Selkirk next Wednesday.
