COEUR d’ALENE — Freshman Sandy Faulkner totaled 16 points and 15 rebounds as the Coeur d’Alene Charter Academy Panthers downed the Clark Fork Wampus Cats 49-33 in nonleague girls basketball Tuesday night at Holy Family Catholic School.

Kelly Ruebke added 13 points, and Mae Alexander 12 for 3A Coeur d’Alene Charter (6-2).

Brooke Stevens scored a game-high 17 points for Clark Fork, hitting two of the Wampus Cats’ six 3-pointers, and also grabbed five rebounds in the loss. Ellie Lambert hit two 3s right off the bat for Clark Fork, and finished with eight points and two assists.

“They came out and hit a couple 3s,” Coeur d’Alene coach Doug Grant said. “But we stuck with our game plan, which was to get the ball in to Sandy all night. Defensively, I thought we gave them a little too much space to shoot.”

Lily Simko added four points and nine rebounds, and Allison Warner nabbed four steals in defeat for the Wampus Cats (1-6), who continue to play up in class early in the season.

“We shot the ball pretty good, but silly turnovers hurt us the worst,” lamented Cats head coach Mark Stevens. “It’s a 3A school, and we played them tough.”
