SANDPOINT — If you’ve ever wanted to experience the feel of gliding on cross country skis but have never learned how or had the opportunity, now is your chance.

The Sandpoint Nordic Club and Schweitzer Mountain Resort are teaming up for another year of Learn to XC Ski Free Day, with three sessions coming on Saturday, Jan. 7 at the Roundabout Trail on the road up to Schweitzer (parking in the lot).

The two groups have teamed up to offer free cross country skiing demos and lessons on specifically groomed beginner trails. Free rentals are available on a reservation basis, and free beginner Classic Skiing and Skate Skiing instruction will be offered by Sandpoint Nordic Club members.

Everyone who attends will receive a coupon for a future discounted lesson package at Schweitzer to continue improving their skills. Free hot chocolate and snacks will be on hand to keep everyone warm and fueled up.

There will be three sessions offered, starting at 9 a.m., 11:15 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., with equipment fittings scheduled a half hour before each session. You can bring the whole family, grab a friend or come by yourself ready to learn the fun Nordic sport.

Participants need to have equipment on before their lesson starts. If you have your own equipment you can join any session.

Contact the Ski and Ride Center at (208) 255-3070 or lessons@schweitzer.com to register and reserve your equipment now.
