Stags topple Bulldogs

| December 30, 2016 12:00 AM

SPOKANE — Deer Park jumped out to an early lead and made it stand up, topping Sandpoint 52-42 on the third day of the Eagle Holiday Classic on Thursday at West Valley High School.

Patrick Rockwell scored a team high 11 points, draining two 3s and providing some strong defense, but the Bulldogs (2-8) struggled in the second and third quarters in the loss.

“With three games in three days, we were very sluggish, and that didn’t help,” said Bulldog assistant Mike Roos. “On a good note, we didn’t turn the ball over. Patrick gave us some energy in the second half with two steals in the back court.”

Robbie Johnson added seven points and T.J. Davis six rebounds in defeat.

Isaac Berglund scored 13 points to lead the Stags (3-6), who built a 27-17 halftime lead and kept Sandpoint at bay in the second half.

The Bulldogs travel to face West Valley on Jan. 7.
