Registration now open for Sandpoint Grid Kids football

SANDPOINT — Attention parents and caregivers of any 3rd through 8th grade students interested in playing tackle football in the fall: The Sandpoint Grid Kids Tackle Football, formerly known as Sandpoint Junior Tackle, is now open for registration through the Spokane YMCA and Spokane Youth Sports Association (SYSA).

All 3rd through 6th grade athletes will register through the Spokane YMCA, anytime from now through July 31, by visiting www.ymcaspokane.org/programs/sports/football, or by calling (509) 777-9622.

The 3rd and 4th grade teams will play six games, beginning on Sept. 17, and the cost is $180. The 5th and 6th grade teams play eight games, beginning on Sept. 8, and the cost is $230.

The 7th and 8th grade athletes will register through SYSA. Registration is open from now through July 28, with more info at www.sysa.com/football/fall/grid-kids, or by calling (509) 536-1800. The teams play an eight game schedule, beginning on Sept. 10, and the cost is $235.

Financial assistance is available and applications must be submitted prior to registration. Please call the organizations at the phone numbers listed above.

The Sandpoint Grid Kids Football Committee is also actively seeking individuals interested in serving as head or assistant coaches for all teams. The committee is actively pursuing all qualified individuals including those who do not have a child or relative participating as an athlete. Sandpoint Grid Kids Tackle Football has participated in the YMCA and SYSA leagues for the last nine years. The participation with the organization offers a tackle football option for grades 3-8 competing against teams from around the inland northwest. Safety equipment, including pads and helmets, are professionally fitted by Kimmel Athletic Supply in Spokane and is included in the cost of registration.

All coaches, both head and assistant, have been “Heads Up” certified. “Heads Up Football” is a comprehensive program developed by USA Football to advance player safety in the game of football.
