John Robert McNeil, 73

John Robert McNeil, 73, of Sandpoint, Idaho, passed away on Friday, June 10, 2016, at his home.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 18, 2016, at Christ Our Redeemer Luther Church with Pastor Dan Wurster officiating. Interment will take place at Pinecrest Memorial Park.

John was born on Aug. 29, 1942 in Sandpoint, Idaho the son of Robert and Ida Shaw. Robert would later pass away and he would be adopted by Floyd McNeil. He grew up in Sandpoint and graduated from Sandpoint High School in 1962. After high school he went to work for the Forest Service fighting fires for a couple years. In 1964, he would change occupations, working for the railroad maintaining tracks.

On Jan. 8, 1966, John would marry the love of his life, Joan Duncan in Marshall, Wash. They would relocate back to Sandpoint in 1968 where they bought some property, built their home and start their family.

John was a longtime member of Christ Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. He loved to landscape with rocks and build rock walls all around his house. He enjoyed North Idaho and everything that it had to offer including hunting and fishing. He collect brass and always enjoyed road trips to Canada and Alaska trying to visit as many national parks as he could.

John is survived by his wife of 50 years, Joan; his three daughters, Ginette Teraceno of Spokane, Wash., Jennifer (Rich) Eppler of Spokane, and Julie (Jeff) Paul of Spokane; three sisters, Betty (Duane) Hopkins of Sandpoint, Pat (Rich) Willer of Spokane, and Laura (Larry) Crain of Athol, Idaho; six grandchildren, Richard (Laura), Annie (Chris), Hannah, Justin, Skylar and Alex; three great grandchildren, Robert, Larry and Todd; and a brother-in-law, Larry (Vonie) Duncan of Spokane; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents.
