William Charles Blessing, 90

| June 15, 2016 1:00 AM

William Charles Blessing, husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully with loving family by his side on Saturday, June 11, 2016, in Sandpoint, Idaho, at age 90. He will be laid to rest next to his wife Helen in the Victor Valley Memorial Park in California.

Bill was born on Sept. 4, 1925, in Cleveland, Ohio, to David and Hannah Blessing.

He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army near the end of World War II and was stationed in the Panama Canal Zone.

Bill married Helen Rose Kasunic on May 24, 1947, in Cleveland, Ohio.

Bill was always curious about how things worked, and he could fix anything. He started his working career as a machinist for S.K. Wellman in Cleveland, Ohio. After marriage and the birth of two daughters the Blessing family moved to Southern California in 1956 where he owned his own business selling and repairing televisions.

Bill and Helen had a lifelong love of animals and often rented riding horses as youths. Later in California, the Blessing family owned horses and Bill learned the skill of horseshoeing. Bill and Helen rescued many stray dogs and cats. Bill moved to Northern Idaho in 2005 to be with his daughter Linda and son-in-law Bruce Hensley. He always maintained a great sense of humor and credited his longevity to laughter.

Bill was preceded in death by his loving wife of over 50 years, Helen Rose Blessing; his older brothers, Howard and Albert; his sisters, Lillian Repasky and Viola Segedi; and a grandson, Preston Wade Hall.

He is survived by his loving children, Priscilla Susan Hall of Pinon Hills, Calif., and Linda Jane Blessing of Sandpoint; his grandchildren, Garett Dean Hall and April Celeste Hensley; his great-grandchildren, Henry Michael Hall, Eleanora Grace Hall and Elizabeth Mae Flatt.

A celebration of his life will be held at the home of Linda Blessing and Bruce Hensley.

The family wishes to thank Luther Park of Sandpoint and River City Hospice for their support and compassionate care and suggests donations to the Alzheimer’s Association.
