Chorale, orchestra rehearsals start

| October 4, 2016 1:00 AM

The Pend Oreille Chorale and Orchestra, volunteer community classical music groups, will be presenting Handel’s “Messiah” on Friday, Dec. 9, at 7 p.m., and Sunday, Dec. 11, at 3 p.m., at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Sandpoint.

Rehearsals began Monday, Oct. 3, at the Seventh-day Adventist Fellowship Hall on Pine Street. Those wishing to join should attend the next practice. Books will be available to borrow if you do not have your own copy.

“We would like to have as many singers as possible to bring this oratorio to life,” said director Mark Reiner. “Many people have enjoyed singing this earlier in their lives so we plan on keeping rehearsals toa minimum, therefore commitment is evenmore important.”

If skilled singers wish to sing a solo, p0lease plan on staying after rehearsal on Oct. 10. An accompanist will be provided.

Rehearsals are ongoing for the orchestra, and are held from 2-4 p.m. at the Seventh-day Adventist Fellowship Hall.

“Again, we want less rehearsals, as many musicians know the ‘Messiah’.” Having your parts ready for practices will tbe up to each player,” Reiner said.

If you have always wanted to sing Handel’s “Messiah” and can match pitch, reading music is not necessary. Practice CDs are provided by Dr. Alan Ball, bass singer in the chorale, who has spent many hours making these so the standard of performance can be one of which everyone is proud.
