Sandpoint Library Hosting Indie Author Day Event

| October 7, 2016 1:00 AM

The East Bonner County Library District loves indie authors and is proud to announce that it will be participating in the inaugural Indie Author Day celebration by hosting an event this Saturday, October 8 that is free and open to the public. This event will offer presentations by local indie authors, a live-stream digital panel of experts, performances, a publisher’s panel and more.

“We try to do everything we can to support local talent, so when I heard about Indie Author Day, I jumped at the chance to partner with the Idaho Writers League on this. It’s a great way to celebrate local authors and to explore all of the resources available to them,” said Mike Bauer, the library’s Adult Programs Specialist.

Indie Author Day is an annual event that will be happening in almost 300 libraries across the U.S. and Canada. This is an opportunity for the indie community to come together in the library to help local authors get discovered and for readers to find great new books from local writers. Beyond the inaugural event that will be happening on Oct. 8, the Indie Author Day community will offer programming on the indieauthorday.com website to help libraries and authors stay connected throughout the year.

“Library Journal is proud to be involved in helping libraries engage their local writing communities and help them find the best indie books,” said David Greenough, General Manager & Group Publish-er of Library Journal. “Over the past three years, we’ve seen this movement grow and evolve, and Indie Author Day will be the first instance of bringing this whole community together on one day to raise awareness of self-published books and demonstrate its place as a vibrant part of the publishing ecosystem.”

In addition to the activities that will be happening locally, the library will be broadcasting the live streaming panel presentation featuring industry leaders Jon Fine, previously from Amazon, Robin Cutler of IngramSpark, Kiera Parrott of Library Journal, Library Journal 2012 Mover and Shaker Jim Blanton of Louisville Free Public Library and the 2016 Black Caucus of the American Library Association (BCALA) Literary Ebook Award recipient L. Penelope. This portion of the event will be taking place at 11 a.m. Pacific Time.

Our local event will bring authors and patrons together to learn more about indie publishing from industry experts. It takes place at the Sandpoint Branch Library, 1407 Cedar, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Presentations by local authors include topics such as research, story development, and marketing. For the full schedule of over a dozen different exciting features, pick up a program at the Sandpoint Branch or visit www.ebonnerlibrary.org.
