KRFY hosts local election series

| October 9, 2016 1:00 AM

SANDPOINT — The 2016 Election Day is coming Nov. 8, and with a host of local races on the ballot voters face an array of candidates and issues.

To help those voters, 88.5 KRFY Panhandle Community Radio is hosting “Local Decision 2016,” a series of weekly interviews as part of the KRFY Morning Show. This on-air candidate forum invites candidates in each of the contested local races to participate in a live moderated format.

The series airs at 8 a.m. each Wednesday for an hour; each program will also be recorded and rebroadcast the following Friday at 5 p.m. Additionally, the series is available as podcasts for anyone to hear any time, online at www.krfy.org.

The schedule for the Local Decision 2016 series is:

• Oct. 12: Legislative District 7 for two races: House Seat A, with Jessica Chilcott, D, and Priscilla Giddings, R; and Senate candidates Carl Crabtree, R, and Ken Meyers, D.

• Oct. 19: Legislative District 1, House Seat B, with incumbent Sage Dixon, R, and Stephen Howlett, D.

• Oct. 26: Legislative District 1, House Seat A, with Kate McAlister, D, and incumbent Heather Scott, R.

• Nov. 2: Legislative District 1, Senate, with incumbent Shawn Keough, R, and Steve Tanner, D.

KRFY Morning Show hosts Suzy Prez and Chris Bessler will imoderate for each program. Wrapping up the series, the Morning Show will have a special post-Election Day broadcast at 8 a.m. on Nov. 9, with Prez, Bessler and guest analysts from local print media reviewing all the results from the Nov. 8 election.

The Bonner County Sheriff race was covered Oct. 5, and is available as a podcast at www.krfy.org.

Prez said the Local Decision 2016 series is part of the station’s ongoing mission.

“Our mission as a community radio station is to inform our local citizens,” she said. “With the Local Decision 2016 series we want to have an objective, friendly and respectful dialog with the candidates. It’s their chance to articulate their positions and make the case with voters why they are best suited for office.”

She added that voters are invited in advance of each show to submit their own questions they’d like to pose to candidates, via the station’s website at www.KRFY.org.
