Bulldog girls host Hawks today in championship

| October 13, 2016 1:00 AM

SANDPOINT — The defacto playoffs start today for the Bulldog girls, who will look to extend their season in the 4A Region 1 girls soccer championship game at Centennial Field at Travers Park.

The No. 1 seed Bulldogs (5-5-5) will face No. 2 seed Lakeland (9-7-1), with the winner advancing to state in the loser-out format, as there is no play-in game this season for the 4A North.

Lakeland beat Moscow 5-1 in the tourney opener on Tuesday. The Bulldogs and Hawks split in head-to-head meetings this season, and while the Hawks have a better record on paper, the Bulldogs have clearly played a tougher schedule.

The Bulldogs have won two of the last three 4A state tournaments, and will look to make a run at another, but must win today to have the chance.

The action kicks off at 3:30 p.m. in the final home game of the season.
