Lucas leads Bullpup cross country runners in Cd'A

SANDPOINT — The Sandpoint Middle School cross country team competed at a race at Coeur d’Alene’s Higgins Point this week, with Jett Lucas continuing to dominate every race this year, winning by 14 seconds to lead the Bullpups to a third place team finish behind Coeur d’Alene Charter and Lakeland.

Trey Clark finished 9th, Ryan Clary was the next SMS runner in 14th, Max Reed came in 18th and PR’d for his best finish yet. Emerging Ben Ricks was a scorer two meets in a row coming in 23rd, while Austin Edwards was 30th to round out the Bullpups in the “varsity” race.

Camille Neuder lead the girls varsity team with a 10th place finish in a very competitive race. Helen Wells continues to improve, finishing 20th, while Emily McCleod 26th, Romi Fox 36th and Angela Stoneham 39th all continued to be consistent and reliable runners.

The SMS boys won the JV meet with a score of 27, taking the first three spots on the podium. Nathan Dotson came in first with a time of 10:25, edging teammate Henry Fiteby .4 tenths of a second. Riley Christman was only five seconds behind in third, while Aidan Smith ran a PR and packed up with Ryan Graham for 10th and 11th as scoring runners.

The SMS girls also won the JV meet. They scored 46 points, edging out Coeur d’Alene Charter and Woodland, which both scored 61. Riley Cessna was the lead dog, coming in 4th with a time of 11:57, followed closely by the pack of Nora Kusler 7th, Kaylee Tillberg 10th, Jillian Primgaard 11th and Angelina Knepper 14th.
