Clark Fork ends season with loss to Kendrick

MOSCOW — The Wampus Cats played some of their best volleyball of the season but still fell short, falling 16-25, 25-23, 26-24, 24-26 and 15-9 to Kendrick in a 1A District 1-2 state play-in game on Saturday in Moscow.

Brooke Stevens finished with 28 assists, many to senior Allison Warner, who ended her high school career on a high note with a season-high 12 kills in defeat.

“Allison was on fire today,” said Cats head coach Cindy Derr. “She played really well and smart all around.”

Hailey Bristol finished with eight kills and Ellie Kiebert five kills, while Emily Garman tallied 13 digs and Ellie Lambert eight as the Wampus Cats (11-11) saw their season come to an end against Kendrick (19-4).

“They just dug in and played really well. We were sticking with them,” said Derr, whose team was down 24-19 before coming back to win the fourth set. “They had spurts, playing really well. Then they had some service-receive trouble.”

Despite the loss, Derr returns many of her key players, including a strong sophomore class that figures to make some noise next year.

“It’s a bright future for Clark Fork,” predicted Derr. “They know what it’s about, what it’s going to take to get there next year. I think we’re going to be pretty solid next year.”
