PONDERAY — Sandpoint Church of the Nazarene will host a free community carnival Halloween night with the theme "Light up the Night."

"We are trying to give kids an alternative to walking in the dark streets, and it will be warm," said Phoebe Ogg, church member and event coordinator.

The carnival games and activities will be divided into two sections; one for kids 5-years-old and younger, and one for kids older than 5. Activities include face painting, balloon animals, a cake walk and family photo booth. There will be "lots" of games for all ages, Ogg said.

Northside Fire District partnered with the church for the event, so fire personnel will be in attendance with their fire engines and goodies for the kids.

And if the weather is "not too terrible," Ogg said a bounce house will be set up in the parking lot alongside the fire engines.

Food and drinks will be available at no charge, including hot apple cider, hot dogs, chili and funnel cakes, with healthier options like carrots available as well.

"And tons and tons of candy," Ogg said.

In collaboration with the "Light up the Night" theme, kids will get free glowsticks.

"Awesome" door prizes will be given out all evening, Ogg said. The church has received generous donations for the prizes, such as Triple Play passes, Schweitzer ski passes, gift baskets, gift certificates and more.

"It will be lots of fun," she said. "We can't wait."

The event is scheduled from 5-8 p.m. Oct. 31. Sandpoint Church of the Nazarene is located at 477954 Highway 95 North, Ponderay.
