Hot rods heat up downtown at Injectors car show

| September 8, 2016 1:00 AM

SANDPOINT — School is in session, the weather has definitely turned a page and a new season is upon us. But with those changes come all sorts of cool entertainment events. On Friday, the monthly Sandpoint contra dance series starts up again — always a treat and a fun place to meet new friends!

Saturday, the hot rods take over downtown Sandpoint, as the Injector’s car Show fills the streets with classic rides. Also Saturday, Bridges Home (shameless plug) plays the Farmer’s Market from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. and the Friends of Scotchman Peaks Wilderness host a wetlands class and hike, which starts out in Heron, Mont.

Starting tonight, the Panida screens the new Woody Allen film, “Café Society” for four days in a row.

See? This change thing isn’t so hard, is it?

For others, the exceptional all-star cast and the story will be the hook of Cafe Society. Led by Jesse Eisenberg, Kristen Stewart and Steve Carell, as well as a story that emphasizes both the old Hollywood nostalgia and the story’s basis in dreams, craftiness and a bit of humor.

Join Brian Baxter, one of Friends of Scotchman Peaks Wilderness’ outdoor education specialists, for this class on riparian habitats and the things that live there.

The class will begin with a classroom session at the Heron Community Center and then transition to the field for an afternoon of onsite explorations.

Bring along your cameras, binoculars and tracking guidebooks, as the class will also scope out birds of prey, waterfowl, terrestrial mammals, aquatic mammals and their tracks in the mud.

Bring lunch and snacks, rain gear, layers for those changes in the weather and good walking shoes. Waterproof boots are a plus. This hike is rated easy to moderate with some short hikes into field locations. Meet at the Heron Community Center with a full tank of gas!
