Wampus Cats sweep Miners

| September 23, 2016 1:00 AM

WALLACE — Facing a team content to hit soft and dump balls on offense, the Wampus Cats stayed patient and executed their game plan, sweeping the Miners 25-14, 25-15, 25-16 in North Star League volleyball on Thursday at Wallace High School.

Brooke Stevens led the Wampus Cats (4-4, 3-1 NSL) with 25 set assists and three aces while running the offense, and Hailey Bristol once again led the team in kills with seven. The Miners opted to hit soft dump shot over the net, which was frustrating but the Cats adjusted well.

“Everything came across light and the girls picked it up. We were swinging hard and paying attention to the push sets,” said Cats head coach Cindy Derr, who praised the play of Grace Shelton off the bench. “Grace did a really nice job in the back row, did a good job pumping the girls up.”

Emily Garman tallied 13 digs, Allison Warner four kills and eight digs, Ellie Lambert five digs and Sarah Holderman two blocks for the Cats, who play a varsity-only match Genesis Prep tonight at 6 p.m. in Post Falls.
