Dec. 26, 1967 – VETS APPOINTED

Doctors Gerald Lewis Jr. and William Morton Jr., veterinarians of the Pend Oreille Veterinary Service at Sandpoint, have been appointed stockyards veterinarians at Sandpoint Livestock Auction, Inc. and Bonners Ferry Livestock, Inc.

CHRISTMAS PARTY AT MADSEN HOME

The Academy of Friendship held its Christmas dinner at the home of Josephine Madsen, with 10 members present. Enid Ereman and Gladys DeMers were cohostesses with Mrs. Madsen. Viola Reed received the door prize and Beva Giles won the white elephant.

NEW BULLDOG BENCH PRESIDENT

Dr. William Morton turned over the reins of the Sandpoint Bulldog bench to new President Lou Oestmann at the group’s monthly luncheon meeting at the Pastime. W.W. Wyatt is vice president and Don Largent, secretary-treasurer.

COFFEE PRICE UP

The 10 cent cup of coffee is fast leaving the local scene. Three major eating places in the city, Travlers, Pastime and Connie’s, have raised the price of the favorite refreshment to 15 cents. That sum is taxable so the actual cost is 16 cents. Still holding at 10 cents are IGA and North Shore Lodge, but the 10 cent cup seems to be going the way the nickel cup did a few years back.

Dec. 26, 1917 – CHILDREN AID SOLDIERS

It has been the custom a good many years at Dover to have a Christmas tree for the children. This year the children decided to forego their usual Christmas festivity and turn over the money saved to the army YMCA and Red Cross. About $20 will be divided between the two war aids.

CITY BREVITIES

Frazier Bros. have purchased a Hobart Hooverizing mill, which grinds cereals as a coffee machine grinds coffee. The starch separates and drops to the bottom, while the food product is held in a receptacle above. It is claimed the machine will manufacture any breakfast cereal as you wait and will greatly reduce the price of cereals.

SLACKER LIST

The slacker list to date, furnished by G.H. Martin, chairman of the Red Cross membership drive, is announced: A.E. Stutsman, Sandpoint; Lee Mintz and Ben McMurray, Hope; A. Kraege, Sunnyside; H. Bowenkamp, Culver’s Spur.

“Let me draw a contrast between these men and the crippled shoemaker in Sandpoint, who must sit on the floor while he does his work, but who eagerly bought a membership to help in the cause of humanity,” said Mr. Martin today.

“It is hoped no more names will be added to the list, but if necessary, they will be added.”
