Samuel Oliver Goudy Jr., 81

Samuel Oliver Goudy Jr., 81, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 21, 2017, in Sandpoint, Idaho.

Samuel was born on Aug. 7, 1936, to Samuel and Eleanor Goudy in Battle Creek, Mich. Sam was raised in Battle Creek until the age of 17, when his family vacationed in Sunnyville, Calif., and he decided to stay on the West Coast. In 1957, Sam met the love of his life, Joyce Wright. Two years later, in 1959 they were married. Sam and Joyce had their first child in 1960, they named their daughter Nova Jean. Two years later, their son Timothy Scott was born.

Sam had his own business The Golden Comb in Sunny-ville for seven years. A family vacation to North Idaho inspired the Goudy family to move to Sandpoint in 1969.

In 1970, he opened his beauty salon, Mr. Sam’s on First Avenue, which he had for 29 years. He later moved his business next to Studio 1 on Cedar Street, where he worked for 12 years, retiring at age 75 in 2011.

Sam enjoyed cooking, knitting, reading books about spirituality, and listening to opera music.

Samuel is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Goudy of Sandpoint; his daughter, Nova Jean (Duane) Dodd of Sandpoint; his son, Tim Goudy of Sandpoint; a brother, Tom (Dorie) Goudy of Battle Creek, Mich.; his sisters, Jackie (Ed) Brown of Los Altos, Calif., and Mary Johnson of Gibsonton, Fla.; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to help fund Alzheimer’s disease research or another charity of your choice.
