Group hosting boating course

SANDPOINT — The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary is hosting a course in boating skills and seamanship beginning Feb. 6.

The course will cover navigation, charting, mechanics, rules of the road, courtesies and customs, seamanship, lines and knots, principles of sailing, terminology, safety procedures and more. Certificates are presented upon completion of the course examination. Most insurance companies offer a discount to policyholders who have certification.

The course meets for two-and-a-half hours per week for 12 weeks starting at 7 p.m. Feb. 6. The following dates are Feb. 13, 20 and 27; March 6, 13, 20 and 27; and April 3. The course will be held in the Sandpoint Forest Service building, 1602 Ontario St.

A fee of $75 per student will include a manual and test materials. The course is limited to 20 students, so pre-registration is suggested.
