This letter is a response to the defense of humanism by Jack DeBaun (Feb, 4, 2017, Daily Bee). Secular Humanism is the one religion in America that is taught in all public schools and universities, at taxpayer expense, in violation of the First Amendment’s establishment clause. How’s that for indoctrination?

Our first president, George Washington said in his farewell address, “And let us with caution indulge the supposition, that morality can be maintained without religion. Whatever may be conceded to the influence of refined education …, reason and experience both forbid us to expect that national morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principle.” He was not speaking of humanism.

Our second president, John Adams, said “The general principles, on which the Fathers achieved independence, were the only Principles in which that beautiful Assembly of young Gentlemen could unite … And what were these Principles? I answer, the general Principles of Christianity …”

Our nation’s founding document, the Declaration of independence, references God four times (the laws of nature and of nature’s god, creator the supreme judge of the world, divine providence). Humanism denies a creator, controverting the Declaration of Independence.

Article VII of the Constitution says, “in the Year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty seven..”

The Liberty Bell is named after a verse of scripture, and even has the reference on the side of the bell. (Leviticus 25:10)

Let’s face it, “humanist” is just dishonest doublespeak for “atheist.” The ideology of humanism is anti-American.
