There are many reasons to vote yes on the upcoming $17 million LPOSD replacement levy, but I will focus on one — the importance of offering our young people extracurricular activities outside of the classroom at SHS. There are approximately 20 different activities/clubs at SHS. My children are recent graduates of SHS, so I can personally attest to the significant benefit they gained by participating in many of the activities/clubs currently being offered and funded. They provide unique and vital learning opportunities to help kids develop traits and skills that ensure success in life.

Through many years of volunteering in LPOSD classrooms and with school activities/clubs, I have watched students in this school district master preparedness for competition, lateral thinking, writing and editorial skills, goal setting, public speaking, self-confidence, collaboration, and service to our community, veterans, law enforcement, and needy families. As my own children embark on their professional careers, I regularly see skills they learned through SHS extracurricular activities at play in their success, lifestyle choices, and employability. Student activities/sports are a vital part of the culture of our schools, many SHS clubs support our community, and we should support them in return.

Please vote yes for the replacement supplemental-instructional levy, our students, and community on March 14.
