The upcoming Lake Pend Oreille School District replacement levy is scheduled for March 14. The levy is a replacement levy. It is not new funding. It covers all sports, all activities, all technology, paying for 140-plus teachers and paraprofessional, teacher training, materials, and much more. It covers fully one-third of the district’s operating budget.

This levy is about making an actual investment in our community. My family owns a home that is valued at slightly below the median home price in Sandpoint at $218,462. Last year we paid $215.88 for the school levy. That amounts to $17.99 per month, or about 60 cents a day. The rate is estimated to increase by 2 percent. So that would be $18.35, or 61 cents a day. When I did the numbers, I thought, “Can that be right?” That amount of money is a ridiculously low amount of money for the value of the investment. I can think of nothing of real value that I can “buy” on a daily basis for that price. Pack of gum? No. Cup of coffee? Nope. Anything at the dollar store? No! For the value of that 61 cents, nothing can compare. And I know exactly where that money is going. Right back in to my community.

The LPOSD website has many links to specific information regarding the levy. When you vote yes to the LPOSD supplemental levy, you are investing in our community.
