Bulldog JV rallies to down Wampus Cats

| February 15, 2017 12:00 AM

SANDPOINT — Spencer Jeffres had a big night, but it wasn’t enough to overcome a balanced scoring effort on the other side, as the Wampus Cats lost 59-56 to the Sandpoint JV in nonleague boys basketball action Tuesday night at Les Rogers Court.

Jeffres had his way on the blocks in the first half as the Wampus Cats (7-10) built a six point halftime lead. He finished with a game-high 26 points and 14 rebounds, but the Bulldogs were able to slow him down in the second half with some strong interior defense by James Johnson and Alex Wolfe.

Wade Stevens finished with 10 points, hitting a pair of 3-pointers to start the fourth quarter, before Wolfe and Levi Favor answered with long range bombs for the Bulldogs. The fourth quarter was tight until the end, when Jeffres had a great look at a 3-pointer at the buzzer that just missed banking in for the tie.

Favor led the Bulldogs with 12, freshman Jackson Pettit, who was recently called up from the J2 team, added 10 and Cade Vernon and Johnson nine each in the win.
