Feb. 19, 1967 – CIVIC CLUB AWARD
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Haynes have accepted the assignment of accepting the National Clean-Up campaign award on behalf of the City of Sandpoint on Feb. 25 in Washington D.C.
Mrs. Forrest Wetterow announced the selection of the Hayneses this week. She said that the young couple had been selected out of a number of former residents because they had lived here more recently than the others. Mrs. Haynes is the former Esther Pennington, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Pennington. The couple will pick up the award at the luncheon and ceremony in the Statler Hilton Hotel.

DELEGATES ARE SELECTED
Delegates and alternates to Girls State from Sandpoint and Clark Fork were announced this week by Mrs. Charles Spealman, committee chairman of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Girls State sessions will be held June 11-17 at Northwest Nazarene College in Nampa.
Sandpoint: Karen Knaggs, Kathy Clary and Vivian Russell. Alternates are Anne Eakin, Karen Thoma and Susan Stilwell.
Clark Fork: Catherine Shields and alternate Diane Brashear.
Delegates and alternates from Priest River will be announced later.

SUMMARY OF THE WORLD’S EVENTS
Our Navy recruiting agents have been instructed to immediately enlist 25,000 additional men.
Germany was satisfied in advance that neutrals of Europe would not take action against her when she launched her new submarine campaign.
The Swedish government rejects President Wilson’s suggestion that other neutral countries join with the U.S. in severing diplomatic relations with Germany and declares its intention to follow the strictest neutrality as long as possible.

SALE OF RAILWAY TO FILSON STICKS
At a stockholders meeting of the Sandpoint Interurban Railway company it was decided to accept the offer of Al Filson, railway president, to purchase the road by paying $1000 and taking on the company’s $12,000 indebtedness. In return Filson will get all the railway property except the terminal building on the corner of Main and 2nd.

HERE AND AROUND ABOUT
The Northern Mercantile and the Sandpoint Mercantile companies held their annual meetings Tuesday, the stockholders of both companies being the same. To avoid name confusion it was decided to succeed the Northern Mercantile co. by the Northern Cedar co., effective March 6.
