SANDPOINT — The Sandpoint dance team kicked off the competitive season with a strong showing recently at a six-school competition at Post Falls High School, being named the overall Grand Champions.

Team captain Amber Laiche won the individual kick division while teammate April Radford finished second, and Laiche also won first in individual dance off while Sara Savage finished second.

The Judges Choice Awards also went to the team for overall high score and for the prop dance. Head coach Laurie Buck praised the hard work her team has put in behind the scenes.

“All successful athletes must train with commitment, vigor and a drive to rise above challenges and these girls have done just that,” she said. “Their training for each school year begins in the summer and ends in May. Monday through Friday they arrive at practice at 6:30 a.m. as well as participate in after school practices and many Saturdays dedicated to perfecting their skills.”

Sandpoint will turn its attention to the upcoming district and state competitions which are right around the corner. Buck said the girls continue to work hard and will no doubt do their community proud with their dedication and drive.
