COEUR d’ALENE — A slow start put the Bulldogs behind the eight ball early, and they were never able to recover, falling 51-39 in the loser-out game of the 4A Region 1 boys basketball tournament Tuesday night at North Idaho College.

The game started and ended on a bad note, as the Bulldogs (3-17) fell behind 19-4 early in the game and junior T.J. Davis suffered a severe injury to his ankle late in the fourth quarter, stopping play for 15 minutes while an ambulance came.

Robbie Johnson had another big night offensively in defeat, scoring 20 points to lead No. 3 seed Sandpoint, which couldn’t seem to get the deficit under double figures for much of the game.

No. 2 Lakeland (9-13) advances to face No. 1 seed Moscow on Thursday for the lone berth to state.
