City urges control of invasive weeds

SANDPOINT – The wet spring we have experienced in Sandpoint has led to extensive weed growth this summer.

Sandpoint city officials remind community members that now is the time to remove and kill these weeds before they go to seed. Many of the local noxious weeds cause allergies and place properties at risk for spreading fire as they dry out.

The city of Sandpoint has begun inventory of nuisance/noxious weed locations and has launched a new web tool for the public to use to report weed locations. The reporting form is located on the city’s website at sandpointidaho.gov/your-government/departments/planning/noxious-weeds-2507.

Property owners with noxious/invasive weeds will be sent a letter requiring maintenance. Failure to comply in a timely manner will result in a fine and the city performing the maintenance which will be billed to the property owner.

In 2016, the Sandpoint City Council adopted an "Integrated Weed Management Plan" to control weeds on public property. This plan is available on the city’s website at SandpointIdaho.gov/your-government/departments/planning/noxious-weeds.
