Flint punishes baseball at wooden bat tourney

| July 7, 2017 1:00 AM

SANDPOINT — Sandpoint baseball player Trey Flint continues to crush baseballs, helping lead his NW Premier team to a second place finish among 35 teams at the recent 4th of July Wooden Bat Tournament in Spokane.

Flint, whose power bat helped earn him league MVP honors this spring for the Bulldogs, went 12 for 23, with three home runs, two doubles, 12 runs and 11 RBIs, as the Post Falls-based team lost 3-2 to a team from Calgary in the championship game.

Flint has lost some weight and is now playing at 6-4, 240 pounds, and he isn’t missing many fastballs. For the season, he’s hitting .500 (43 for 86), with four homers, 14 doubles, 28 runs and 28 RBIs in 27 games.

He’s doing this damage at the plate against some of the best U19 competition in the Northwest, facing a handful of Division I and II pitching commits in the process.

Several schools have shown interest in Flint and invited him for visits, and he could draw even more interest next year as a senior, when Sandpoint could have one of its strongest teams in years.
