SANDPOINT – The fun is in full swing this week and local venues are pulling out all the stops to keep you entertained. Loads of film happening at the Panida, plus some excellent concert options around the whole region.

Let’s dive in:

Thursday, July 13

‘Blind’

Venue: Panida Theater, 300 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 7:30 p.m.

A novelist blinded in a car crash (Alec Baldwin) which killed his wife rediscovers his passion for both life and writing when he embarks on an affair with the neglected wife (Demi Moore) of an indicted businessman (Dylan McDermott).

Open Mic with Kevin Dorin

Venue: MickDuff’s Beer Hall, 220 Cedar St., in Sandpoint.

Time: 6 p.m.

MickDuff’s Beer Hall and Kevin Dorin are excited to welcome all local artists for a fun and open night of playing at the Beer Hall. All levels of performers are welcome. The set will be recorded live and artists will have access to the audio. Also, this an opportunity for you to work with a professional sound guy who will work to mic you up and get your levels to show the best version of you.

Friday, July 14

Paul Thorn

Venue: Panida Theater, 300 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: Door open at 8 p.m., concert starts at 9 p.m.

Paul Thorn took an unexpected detour on the road to recording a follow-up to his most successful release, 2010’s “Pimps and Preachers”. After writing many discs of semi-autobiographical tunes that have drawn comparisons to John Hiatt and John Prine, the critically acclaimed singer/songwriter — hailed as the “Mark Twain of Americana” — decided to do an album of covers.

Sandpoint Contra Dance

Venue: Sandpoint Community Hall, 204 S. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 7-10 p.m.

Celebrate the joys of community by dancing. Live music will be provided by Out of the Wood and all dances are called by Emily Faulkner. Previous dancing experience is not necessary. First-time dancers are encouraged to arrive on time for an introductory dance at 7 pm. Bring clean, comfortable, non-marking shoes to dance in.

DJ Josh

Venue: 219 Lounge, 219 First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 9 p.m.

Summer is even nicer with music by DJ Josh, one of Sandpoint’s favorite DJ’s who will be playing a selection of your favorite tunes on the patio bar.

Admission: Free for those 21 and over.

Jake Robin

Venue: Pend d’Oreille Winery, 301 Cedar St., in Sandpoint.

Time: 5-8 p.m.

Come jive with original acoustic rock sounds, a pop culture and lyrical charisma.

Admission: Free and open to the public.

Ron Greene

Venue: MickDuff’s Beer Hall, 220 Cedar St., in Sandpoint.

Time: 7 p.m.

Ron Greene is heading north for another special night at the Beer Hall. Ron has been a dynamic musical presence as a professional musician and solo artist, spending the last decade performing throughout the Northwest and West Coast.

Admission: Free for those 21 and over.

‘American Bandstand Revisited’

Venue: Circle Moon Theater, located on Highway 211, 3 1/2 miles north of Highway 2, near Newport, Wash.

Time: 6:30 p.m. dinner service, curtain opens at 7:30 p.m. – Fri. July 14 (additional shows on July 15, 20, 21 and 22)

What were you doing in the 1950s, ‘60s, ‘70s or even ‘80s? For more than 30 years, Dick Clark created a musical culture, which, to this day, is unmatched. Bandstand Revisited will honor this achievement, featuring Unleashed headliners doing solo and ensemble performances inspired by the original artists who appeared on this ground-breaking national television show

Lyle Lovett & His Large Band

Venue: Martin Woldson Theater at the Fox, 1001 W. Sprague Ave., in Spokane.

Time: Doors open at 6:30 p.m., concert starts at 8 p.m.

A singer, composer and actor, Lyle Lovett has broadened the definition of American music in a career that spans 14 albums over three decades. Coupled with his gift for storytelling, the Texas-based musician fuses elements of Americana, swing, jazz, folk, gospel and blues in a convention-defying manner that breaks down barriers. Whether touring as a duo or with his acoustic group or The Large Band, Lovett’s live performances are a treat and make him one of the most compelling and captivating musicians in popular music.

‘Losing Julia Finch’

Venue: Panida Theater, 300 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 7:30 p.m.

Losing Julia Finch is a mirthful film about lust, loss and libations experienced through moments of time that feel both brief and infinite. A majority of the film was shot in and around Sandpoint, so be sure to look for hotspots and cameos from your favorite neighbors in this film by natives Jeff Tedd Bock and Keith Lee Morris. Adult themes, language, nudity.

Folk Remedy

Venue: Sandpoint Farmers Market, Farmin Park, Third Ave. & Oak St., downtown Sandpoint.

Mike Waggoner

It’s a fun night of games, beers and cocktails with one of Sandpoint’s favorite bartenders.

Peter Pan Theater show

Venue: The Bing Crosby Theater, 909 W. First Ave., in Spokane.

Time: 2 p.m.?Peter Pan, the beloved fantasy about the boy who never grew up, is given a radically inventive treatment in the National Theater Live’s filmed performance which will be shown at the Bing’s Theater’s Stage to Screen Series at 2 p.m. Sunday.

When Peter Pan, leader of the Lost Boys, loses his shadow, headstrong Wendy helps him to reattach it. In return, she is invited to Neverland, where Tinker Bell the fairy, Tiger Lily and the vengeful Captain Hook await.

West African Traditions Drum Class

This group explores the rich tradition of West African drumming styles under the expert leadership of Ali Thomas.
