I grew up in Sandpoint and had to move to Spokane for work. I attended your city’s Fourth of July parade this year. I cannot even begin to express in words the dismay I had over a few things.

First of all, the fact that the mayor of Sandpoint went ahead of the color guard is absolutely and completely disrespectful. I was shocked. Secondly, the lack of respect for the color guard, the military, and the American flag in your town is unbelievable. I could not believe the amount of people who would not stand up for the flag.

To all those who refuse to stand up to the flag in Sandpoint, it’s only because of those people that you refuse to respect that you have the right to not stand. I had a young boy next to me who stood up proud as can be, took his hat off, and covered his heart with his hand and stood in absolute respect for our flag and our military. That young man could teach many of the people of Sandpoint some lessons. I am simply appalled by the lack of respect that the town I grew up in shows to our military. But, it starts at the top, doesn’t it mayor?
